  6. The Windows 98 Scheme for Kaleidoscope 2.1 is fully compatible with Kaleidoscope version 2.1 and higher.  This scheme is freeware, and is a part of the official KSA OS Scheme Pack.

You may redistribute this scheme provided you keep the original archive intact with this Read Me file and you notify the authors at asimov@stealth.net and kupan787@aol.com.  Please do not use resources from this scheme as a basis for another scheme without first asking permission from us at asimov@stealth.net and kupan787@aol.com.  Any public distributions of schemes using resources stolen from this scheme without our permission will be removed from distribution by all reputable distribution sites, so think before you act.

This scheme changes your Mac OS interface to resemble Windows 98 in a frightening number of ways.  The windows, now redone in the Kaleidoscope 2.1 format, now assume the colors, shape and functionality of actual Windows 98 windows.  All visual elements patched by Kaleidoscope have been patched to resemble Windows 98 as closely as possible.  For best results, keep the Finder Icons, Finder Colors, Arrow Cursor and Desktop Pattern checkboxes checked in the Scheme Settings tab of the Kaleidoscope control panel.

This scheme works best, and the colors are most true to Windows 98 in Millions of colors.  At Thousands of colors, the title bar gradient loses some of its appeal, and in 256 colors, you might as well use the Windows 95 scheme.  Windows 98 Scheme does not dither down well in 256 colors.  The scheme will not work with an earlier version of Kaleidoscope because of the new gradient feature of Kaleidoscope 2.1.

  14. The folders and icons have been patched to match and mimic Windows 98 as closely as possible.  Mac OS 8.5 UI elements and folder icons are also patched.
